Many of my friends have had to deal with finding ways to help their children cope with different learning disabilities or behavior issues and have often promoted this easy DIY Calm Jar as a great way to battle those meltdown days. I’ve never had a major need for something like this with my son until recently.
While getting further and further into his education this year I found certain things would really overwhelm him and cause mini breakdowns. Although he was working a problem correctly or doing things the right way, his desire for every letter to be written perfectly or every shape to be drawn exactly would on occasion cause a little meltdown that resulted in tears and frustration. This Calm Jar is a great way to help him stop, take deep breaths and concentrate on something else for a few minutes until he gains his composure.
BONUS: Kids love making these!

Let your kids be a part of the process making these. You can tell them that the DIY Calm Jar is to help them to stop and take deep breaths, focus and calm down when they are having a hard time. It works great for kids who have issues with being over stimulated, who have a tough time focusing or who get overwhelmed easily. Each jar cost so little – potentially only $1 or less if you use clean jars from things like pickles, sauces, etc. and only have to buy the glitter glue and glitter at your local dollar store.
