Going vegan doesn't mean I have to give up the best foods.  In fact, using this Vegan Black Vegan Brownie recipe is a perfect way to add not just a great vegan chocolate dessert, but also one that is low on Weight Watchers points. This makes it a great idea for an easy treat that is healthier, high in protein, and best of all, delicious.

Vegan Black Bean Brownies are a great way to satisfy your latest chocolate craving. These are sweet, full of protein, and a great choice on Weight Watchers!

Vegan Black Bean Brownies

A lot of people don't care for typical vegan black bean brownies because the flavor isn't sweet enough.  This is not a sugar-free recipe though.  I've worked with it a few times and finally came to one that I really enjoy. You can use canned black beans, or you can cook from dry beans without seasonings.  Whatever you prefer will work just the same.

Ingredients for Vegan Black Bean Brownies

1 ½ cups black beans

¼ cup blackstrap molasses

¼ cup unsweetened applesauce

⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

½ cup all-purpose flour

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon baking powder

Directions for Vegan Black Bean Brownies

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Spray a 8x8 casserole dish with non-stick spray

Drain and rinse the black beans, then pour into a blender or food processor and pulse until mostly smooth

Dump black beans in a large bowl along with applesauce and molasses.

Sift in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder and stir until well combined.

Pour into prepared casserole dish and bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes or until cooked through and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

I appreciate all your hard work! This recipe didn’t work out for me. There was barely enough batter to cover a 9x13 Pan and it came out very flat and dry. I followed the instructions and ingredient list exactly. I’m wondering if maybe something is missing or the measurements are off. Mine looked nothing like this photo. Thanks again!

Hi Danielle! I am sorry! Thank you for pointing that out. It should be an 8x8" pan for this. The ingredients and directions are correct, but the pan size we use is not. You may want to adjust the time if they are too dry. Some ovens cook hotter. Sorry!

I made then today and they were not sweet at all. I’m thinking if next time I blended up some dates with the black beans they would be good!! Might add a few points but would be more brownie like!

Do you need to rinse the black beans first?

You have two different quantities for the amount of molasses listed in this post. I started with the 1/8 cup directions, but it was super thick. Then I saw the 1/4 cup measurement and the batter loosened up a bit—I'm assuming that's the correct one. Is that so?

      1/4 cup is correct.

I tried these and I thought the molasses flavor was way too strong, it took over the whole brownie. Is there a substitute?

You have 1/2 cup flour listed in the instructions but then only have 1/4 cup flour listed on the recipe below that. Which is correct?

It is 1/2 cup. It has been corrected.

I was excited about making these but they just aren’t sweet enough. Ty taste like blacks beans and molasses. I think I’ll adjust the recipe a bit to add a different sweetener.
These just aren’t cutting it for my craving!

I was so excited to try these. They tasted like bitter black beans. I followed the recipe to a T because I read the pitfalls in the other comments. Mine also came out thin and dry. Back to the drawing board....
